Based on an original Asmara painting by Elizabeth Moisan inspired by Suzani embroideries and Bessarabian rugs. The result is a Suzani pattern rendered in the style of 19th century Bessarabian rugs made for the Russian aristocracy. Pomegranate shaped palmettos nestle inside grape leaf vines. Reds, pomegranate, sienna, yellow greens, blue greens, beige-gold and walnut motifs lay on a shaded sandy beige ground.
By dyeing five types of wool with ancient French methods, this hand made Bessarabian flat weave rug has thousands of subtle variations in colors and texture similar to antique Bessarabian rugs.
Has passed independent durability tests by the Independent Textile Service of Dalton, Georgia, USA.
